Rival executives from around the league believe the Lakers and Suns will likely resume trade discussions that will culminate in a deal that sends Pau Gasol to Phoenix in exchange for Emeka Okafor, according to Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders (via Twitter links). Executives believe Gasol is the best player the Suns could receive for Okafor’s expiring, insured contract.

Kennedy says it’s expected that Gasol will leave in free agency this summer, and executives believe the Lakers would like to receive assets for Gasol at the trade deadline rather than letting him walk away this summer for nothing.

Alex Kennedy: Earlier, I tweeted that the Mavs are kicking the tires. I'm told that Dallas has been gauging interest in Shawn Marion and Shane Larkin.

From the Kings perspective, I like this trade, as while it's about the same salary and years (Terry has 1 more year at $5.85 million and Evans has 1 more year at $1.77 million per ShamSports) coming back to the Kings, it chops it up into smaller, and thus more moveable pieces. Terry is also much more equipped to play as a roleplayer than Thornton, and Evans provides the Kings with a defensive big man who is also a fantastic rebounder. Terry's also got experience running the point even if it's not his primary role.

The Nets aren't averse to spending a lot of money for their team, and if they think Thornton can rediscover his offense on their bench, more power to them.

UPDATE 1:00 P.M.: As cerpy pointed out in the comments, Jason Terry had a 7.5% trade kicker activate when he was traded to Boston. However the trade kicker can't activate again so it won't factor into this deal.

UPDATE 1:16 P.M.: Woj's story on the rumors is out now, and there's not much new other than that no deal is imminent and that the Nets don't want Jack's long term salary.

Not my words , from the article but I don't see Isaiah Thomas back next season. I like IT but dude reminds me a lot of Jason Williams with all of the pointless mistakes he does during games. Look what happened the last time the Kings traded for a proven PG. Seems like Pete never was much of a fan of his anyway.

The Timberwolves are willing to listen to offers for any player on their roster besides Kevin Love, says on league executive. It’s a common belief Love will part ways with Minnesota in the summer of 2015 to seek out a deal with the Lakers, and the Wolves want to do everything they can to help prevent such a scenario.

Omer Asik has been asking for a trade since the Rockets signed Dwight Howard, but Amick hears it’s unlikely the disgruntled big man gets moved this week. It’ll be interesting to see where Asik is come Thursday, since this news contradicts an earlier report stating the Sixers might be in play to land him.

The Bucks have emerged as a possible “longshot desitnation” for Asik, as the Rockets would be interested in a swap involving Ersan Ilyasova. The Bucks remain hesitant to take on Asik, who will receive a steep pay increase next season, despite word that Ilyasova is unhappy in Milwaukee.

Amick reiterates earlier reports that suggests Mike Dunleavy is unlikely to be traded away from the Bulls.

Jeff Teague might emerge as a fallback option for clubs that are unable to trade for Rondo, as rival executives believe Teague will be available to teams if the price of the package coming their way is high enough.

7:42pm: The Knicks also continue to show interest in Faried, tweets Kennedy. New York is still willing to send off Iman Shumpert in exchange for Faried, but their attempts to create a similar deal earlier this season fell through.

The Bobcats and Thunder are both interested in obtaining sharpshooting Bucks guard Gary Neal, according to Marc Stein of ESPN.com and Gery Woelfel of the Racine Journal Times (Twitter links). Stein reports that Neal has been being openly shopped by Milwaukee since January, and we heard on Friday that the fourth year guard is unhappy with the Bucks.

Why would the Kings want either Evans or Terry, especially Terry? Unless it's just a deal to get out of Thornton's contract and Evans and Terry are on shorter deals.

We heard earlier tonight that the Raptors were actively pursuing Rondo, but Chris Broussard of ESPN tweets that Rondo wouldn’t have any interest in remaining in Toronto long term. It’s not clear whether or not Rondo’s alleged unwillingness to remain with the Raptors is affecting the clubs’ pursuit, however.

If a deal is to take place that puts Rondo on the move, league executives know it won’t be until the closing hours before the deadline, according Sam Amick of USA Today (Twitter link).

As for the notion that Rondo wouldn’t be open to re-signing as a member of the Raptors or Kings, Amick notes that any club that might acquire him would have 17 months to change his mind before his contract expires. Rondo is signed through the 2014/2015 season.
