You would think but the Bortles movement is ridiculous right now. Maybe the scouts see something different than us.
It is and it isn't. Bortles would be a lock for 1st pick from 1995 to 2003. Maybe Manning would go ahead of him but no one else would. To me, he's a weird prospect. He's like the poor man's Andrew Luck. Except bigger, taller, and maybe faster. The best comparison is if Luck is Wade, Bortles is Oladipo or if Luck is Michael Jordan, Bortles is Wade. I did finally get around to watching Bortles tape. The best comparison is an unpolished Andrew Luck who is still learning the position. What Luck has over him is pre-snap ability which Bortles lacks, the great decision making skills Luck had at Stanford, and the elite clutch factor Luck had as a prospect.
I didn't think Luck was the greatest prospect ever and I had RG3 rated higher but i felt Luck could be better long term. With Bortles, it's weird, I see Luck more than Big Ben just like Wade is the closest I've seen to MJ. I just think Bortles pre-snap reads and his progressions isn't even average at this stage of his career. He will need to develop but he's a legit 1st rounder and a legit top 10-15 prospect in general. He is better than what I used to see entering the draft in the 90's and early 2000's. I do like him as a prospect better LONG term wise over Johnny Football but I have Teddy better than both for short and long term.
