hard to say because music was different then and alot of people had a distinct sound. music today is all pop crossover songs about the same exact shyt as over a decade ago and all produced by the same people and you cant tell a taylor swift song from a juicy j song.
No its easy to say

none of that is why albums use to sell a lot.

The idea of selling music to listen to is archaic.

You have YouTube, spotify, soundcloud, datpiff, pandora etc

Buying an album makes no sense

Most people are too cheap and don't give a shyt about supporting artists nowadays.

"The artist, recording engineers, producers, mixers, assistants, managers, record labels all worked on putting out this album but fukk it, I'll buy a coffee instead of supporting. :obama:"

And you wonder why music is so shyt nowadays. :yeshrug:

music in that era seemed more cultural almost even tribal in a way because the music that you listened o signified what type of culture and group you belonged to. it determined what type of clothes you would wear. it was a lifestyle. part of why those albums were selling was because they were little parts of a bigger lifestyle people were trying to create for themselves almost like how an athlete needs to have equipment to live that lifestyle. somewhere music lost that cultural/tribal aspect and mentality. like you said its all generic now and the impulse to need to have a album doesnt make sense anymore.
