I'll take your word for it breh. It just seems like a pick out of left field. Didn't even hear much buzz about us being interested in him. I wonder if we could have traded back and still have him on the board

I mean Im still a little puzzled too because I actually felt we were kind of stacked at inside LB. But as far as Shazier himself he will not disappoint. Top tier athlete. Could potentially end up as one of the best LB in pass coverage in the NFL. I will like him getting the luxury of blitzing more in the Steelers defense. He was actually very successful blitzing when he got a chance at OSU but had so many other responsibilities that it didn't happen as often as I would have liked. There was a lot of times he would over pursue and find himself in the wrong place which is the biggest knock on his play at OSU but honestly it was partly that he just played so damn fast.

This was simply a best player available pick . I think he will take less time to develop than Timmons did even though Shazier is only 21

Not even gonna lie a decent comparison would be Troy Polamalu they just kinda fly around the field

When you really think about it's just Timmons who is proven. Spence is healthy but really after 2 years off what can you expect? Vince Williams got time last year but who knows what his ceiling is, same with Terrance Garvin. I do know we need to get back to being that physical/takeaway traditional Steelers defense. Hopefully this is the beginning of that

Was puzzled by it because all this time I've been saying I want Mosely.
I thought CJ was a better fit as a more natural 3 down ILB
I was shocked
But we will see how this plays out.

I was at my neighbors house praying we didn't take Darqueze Dennard.
Im not high on the guy as a top 15 pick and dont see him as a star.

Moving forward
Lots of DLinemen available as well as Wide Recievers
I could see us going either way with a best player available mentaility
But if Donte Moncrief or Jordan Matthews are available
They have to go that route.

Regardless of which direction we go in the 2nd
In the 3rd we have to go CB
The way things are projected...
this will be the best round to address CB based on whos available.
Since it is a late 3rd compensery pick...
Im thinking Keith McGill.
Dude is 6-3 with decent speed
Reminds me of Sherman when he came out under the radar

So in the end Im thinking

1. LB
2. WR
3. CB
4. DL
5. OL
5. S
6. DL
6. CB
7. OL

NYC (but PGH will forever be home)
I guess everyone had the same reaction as me:

They announce the pick::sadcam::patrice:

I look at some of his game tape and hear about his story/leadership abilities::obama:

Then I see his 40 (4.35) and Vertical (42in)::blessed::jawalrus:

1.) We needed a QB on our defense
2..) We needed a playmaker on defense
3.) We needed to get more athletic on defense

Shazier fits all 3 of those criteria's. Given what was left on the board- I am actually convinced he was BPA with a huge upside:ehh:

Im gonna start off by saying Im a biased OSU fan ....

Im really happy about the pick and Shazier is an athletic freak, hard worker, and leader THE prototipical kind of guy you want in the NFL but I'm just not sure who he is replacing ...is Timmons on the way out or....... ?

I can't see him being anything but an ILB in our defense unless theres something crazy here going on like turning Shazier into a safety ...... and we actually have a young ILB in Vince Williams who showed a lot of promise last season plus Lawrence Timmons. Not sure if Timmons is on his way out or if they just feel Shazier is that much better than Williams. Even just got the good news that Sean Spence is finally 100% healthy.

end of the day I'm super happy and I think its obvious why Shazier will be a successful LB in todays passing NFL

With Vince Williams, we had him as the mack LB calling plays and maybe it was just him being a rookie but he wasn't doing the best of jobs with that. The Shazier pick puzzled me too, even though I'm a Buckeye fan....but he seems like more of a natural leader, better playmaker & it was something the front office saw with him over Dennard who was still available. The 3rd Rnd pick has puzzled me even more though. When are we going to address WR & DB?

I like the picks they've made so far. Sticking to their board & drafting BPA. Stephon Tuitt could come in and start Week 1 & Dri Archer is a threat to score every time he touches the ball

I'd like to see them take Denicos Allen late on Day 3. He's projected as a 7th/undrafted because of size. He was overlooked coming out of HS because of size, went on to be a 3x All-Big Ten selection. He would be a monster on special teams, and could develop into something.
