Honestly the lakers would sweep them.

they would by far have the best 2 players certers on the court.

you wouldn't dare disrespect shaq by putting green on him so going small is out of the question.

curry scores 35+ on fisher though. Kobe klamps klay, fox klamps barnes. iggy shoots to his heart content

GS bench rapes the laker bench but shaq and kobe were playing 42+ minutes a night back then

Name the key differences in those teams sir. Who were the key losses?

shaq being out of his prime is the biggest point

gary not fitting in the triangle, malone being hurt in the finals.

Fisher in 01 was shooting 80% from 3 against the spurs, fox was good, horry was good. in 04 those guys were washed.

kobe had a fukked up shoulder in 04

2001 kobe is the second best kobe ever behind 03 kobe. 04 kobe is one of the worse kobe's ever

I hear you breh. But you and I both know that there wasn't that many good teams back in 01. The west wasn't what it is now. I say that to say that if you can dominate this western conference, it is much more impressive.

It'd be a pretty good give-and-take series.

One point I'd like to add is that Curry would expose Shaq's pick and roll defense. Shaq was always a below average P-n-R defender and you have to hedge hard against Curry. Whoever between Fisher/Bryant would have majorly increased defensive responsibilities. Lakers had a good defense but the point of the Curry pick-and-roll is to draw the big man (whoever it may be) out, have the 4/5 roll, and see if anyone tries to come off the shooters on help defense. As good of an athlete as Shaq was, he didn't like to step out and guard or switch and that started as early as his Orlando days when Ewing would sit out and shoot open mid-range jumpers while Shaq would more often than not wait in the paint. He can't do all the time against GS. I've argued on other sites before that Shaq should've won DPOY in '00 but he wasn't as good defensively in '01.

There was nobody in the league then to stop Shaq individually though, and Bogut/Ezeli aren't strong enough to handle him. Shaq by 2000/2001 was at his physical peak in terms of conditioning and quickness at 335ish lbs. As good of a defender as Draymond is I don't see any way he could effectively guard Shaq. He's not Marc Gasol. Shaq would average 30+ regardless of the attention he receives in terms of help defense. Indiana did everything they could to stop him (Indy players talked about trying to literally push him to the elbows. He'd keep moving towards the block so they'd have no choice but to foul him lol) in the 2000 NBA Finals and he powered right through a very good defense. They had shooters too.

Also should be noted when GS inevitably tries a Hack-a-Shaq strategy, Shaq was a great 4th quarter player regardless of if he was making his free throws. Dude averaged 11.5 fourth quarter PPG in 2000 (courtesy of Elias Sports Bureau). He shut shyt down when he knew it was time.

Also put up 33-16-5 vs. DPOY Mutombo and another good Philly defense in the '01 Finals.

It'd be pretty good series, but I think Los Angeles has an advantage with Shaq (didn't even mention Kobe but that was his first year of his prime and could've at least guarded Klay/Barnes/Iggy well as an All-D 2nd teamer, would've likely focused on Curry in crunch time). He was that good at his peak. Again it'd be a give-and-take series because of various advantages for both teams, but I like L.A.

That same Lakers squad got stopped by Detroit. I got the Dubs. Kobe in his prime was what James Harden was last season offensively and look what we did to the Rockets. Shaq was a beast so he would make it tough but we'd be too deep for them. The benches would be the difference.

Wow. This is quite possibly the worst post in 'seum history. The '01 team was not the same team as the '04 team dumbass one of the biggest weaknesses in '04 was the lack of a bench and new pieces not fitting into the Triangle. And don't you ever compare Kobe in 2001 to james harden in any season you mothafukkin faggit. :pacspit: :mjno:

Anyways to answer this silly ass thread, Lakers in 5, maybe the Warriors get a game, maybe. AI a G though and had some of the most heart ever displayed in the NBA, Steph a killa but we ain't seen him get tested by a team as great as the '01 Lakers so who knows if he could do what AI did especially if Iggy don't bail him out.
