as the scarcity of precedent for an HBCU head coach to jump to a major D1 program. ..even if it's a mid tier one such as State.
while they were speculating on Calipari or Pitino. I listened to a podcast from some dude who covers them and he said that basically State is hoping that one of their targets (Miller, VCU coach and bruh from UNCW) loses early on. Supposedly they had hitched their wagon to Shaka Smart before he took VCU to the Final Four, and the more he won, the more it seemed he started to realize he could get a much better job than State off the strength of that Final Four run, which he did. I have always followed a NC State coaching search with interest because of how delusional the fanbase is. The message boards on PackPride would have mewhile they were speculating on Calipari or Pitino. So much of what they do is based on trying to come at UNC and dook. I think a lot of up and coming coaches look at that and say they can do better.
Exactly. .. Their identity is so rooted in UNC and Duke. ... Smh. .. they gotta get outta that although I'm sure it's easier said than done based on school proximity and history.
Even Gott took a shot on his way out saying when it comes to hoops, "there are two supermodels in the Triangle and then there's State. "
And Pack Pride is hilarious man. I still like to believe the folks there are the extreme fringe but still somewhat indicative of the fanbase's perspective.
because I knew that was NOT what State fan wanted to hear. That's why when Sidney Lowe came in with the red jacket and pointing out the game on the schedule, State fans was extra hypeYooooo.... He said that? LOL There is a measure of truth to that. Herb Sendek had them in the tournament on a regular basis, but he could never beat UNC or dook often enough... I moved down here after the 2005 UNC title, and they had lost May, McCants, Felton, Marvin Williams. Everyone thought we was gonna be done the next season, especially State fans... We mopped them both times we played them, including a blowout at their house. Herb tried to play it off like "it's just another game", which I was likebecause I knew that was NOT what State fan wanted to hear. I had heard stories about Gottfried back when he was at Alabama, and that there were a few stories of him being extra friendly with the broads here in the Triangle. A chick I used to work with had a side gig at World of Beer, and she told me that he palmed her butt when posing for a picture.
Man if they get dissed by one of their targets, I guarantee Pack Pride will be on meltdown status. I'd get my popcorn ready.
Just heard that... he needs to make the move IF he wants an HC job at a major D1 school.
If Will Wade leaves, Moton would do work at VCU.
Is Jonesboro, AR better than Durham, NC. I'd say no. Sure it's a raise and some good perks, but you can do the same things at Central you can do there, plus better quality of life.
I wouldn't be mad at him going there AT ALL, they're a proven incubator of young black coaches(Capel, Grant, Smart) and all 3 of those guys went to Power 5 schools post VCU. In addition, you can get very talented guys to come there, they're funded well, and you got a shot at an at-large bid come tournament time
VCU would be ideal but he shouldn't be in a rush. He's still young. Has a lot of coaching left in him.
