Damn I wish he could have stuck around for the next season, but he's going to help the cap situation. Jesse James gonna have to step up because that position plays a big role in the offense

Heath retiring throws are draft for a loop now. My opinion is fukk it and run the offense with four receiver sets having Brown, Bryant, Wheaton and Coates on the field but we know that Haley's offense is built around having that TE in as an option or more importantly as a blocker...what y'all think?

I hope we get green from san diego. Hes not a bad blocker and he can stretch the field unlike heath. Plus we still have spaeth as a primary blocker.

Just imagine all that speed on the field. :wow:

All I know is that this will be a major topic in this off season because of the value of the position in this offense. Miller was one of y favorites on offense when he first entered the league and his injuries over the last couple of seasons made me forget just how valuable he was to us.

Running back DeAngelo Williams might be the smartest Pittsburgh Steelers free agent acquisition in recent memory. He proved to be a phenomenal back up for Le'Veon Bell during the 2015 season. Now there are indications that Williams might need to resume his starting role at the beginning of the 2016 season amid rumors that Bell will not be ready in time for the 2016 season opener.

General manager Kevin Colbert seemed noncommittal about the return of Bell at the start of the 2016 season saying, "We can't even say he'll be ready for the regular season because we won't know until he goes through the whole process."

Steelers not certain RB Le'Veon Bell will be ready for the start of the 2016 regular season

While the Pittsburgh Steelers have never been huge players in free agency, there’s a chance they might kick the tires on a few tight ends when the new league year arrives in less two weeks now that veteran Heath Miller has retired. Currently, Dwayne Allen is set to be one of the top free agent tight ends this year and he talked about his pending status Wednesday on SiriusXM NFL Radio and he had quite a few interesting things to say.

First, late in the interview, Allen talked a little about the recent retirement of Miller and how much he admired him.

“The reason why I wear 83,” said Allen of Miller. “A guy who understands the position, who’s not afraid to put his face in the fire and a guy who I model my game after. Himself, Jason Witten, those guys understand the tight end position and they go out and play it the way it’s supposed to be played. That’s all all I want to do. I want the opportunity to play the tight end position the way it’s supposed to be played.”

With the start of free agency now right around corner, Allen let it be known that he hopes to re-sign with the Indianapolis Colts. However, if he and his agent Drew Rosenhaus are unable to get a deal done with the Colts, Allen wasn’t shy about naming other teams that he wouldn’t mind playing for in 2016 and he started off by naming the Steelers.

“With Heath stepping down, Pittsburgh is a place and with the dynamic receivers that they have on the outside, they could definitely use my talents on the inside to sure up the run game and also some intermediate route running,” Allen said.

Allen would actually be a great fit in our offense :whoo: Not sure what he's gonna want $$$ wise but with Rosenhaus as his agent I'm sure it's a lot. But if we could get him at like 4-5 million a year I think that would be a smart move.

I don't think Jesse James is ever gonna be physical enough to be a true #1 TE in our offense so it's something I feel like we gotta address.

Has to he addressed, Haley's offense needs a big blocking TE who can also catch but most importantly be counted on. Doubt he wants to go into this coming season with a second year unproven player...who had a case of them butterfingers

My biggest thing with James besides dropping the fukn ball is his body type.....he just too tall and narrow and defenders have too easy a time getting under him and pushing him backwards, especially run blocking. I think that's always gonna hold him back from being a true #1 in-line TE in our offense, even if he was more consistent catching the ball.
