Comparing Steelers CB Senquez Golson to the 2016 CB Draft class

When Senquez Golson was selected in the in 2nd round in 2015 NFL draft last season, there were many mixed feelings about the pick at the time. Some at the time thought they may have reached for a need, while others believe that they took the best player available, like Mel Kiper who stated "That's one of the best picks of the second round." There were also some who believed that Maxx WIlliams was their original target and once he got picked it changed their plans and made them panic.

Whatever you may believe, the fact remains that Golson really had a ton of traits coming out of college that fit the Steelers scheme perfectly. Let's not forget his 16 career interceptions he got while playing in the SEC which is one of the big power 5 conferences in college football. Just how good of a prospect was Golson though? Remember some did not project Golson to go as high as he did in the 2nd round but I feel like that said more about the CB class he was a part of rather than what type of player he actually was coming out.

So just how does he compare to this next class of CB's and who has the advantages and disadvantages?

Let's take a closer look shall we?
Gifs and analysis at the link. Can't wait to see how Golson performs this season

UPDATE 4/18 - Steeler's draft exposed a bit - a list
Below is the updated list, with a few more players gleaned from DTH's list and sorted per the current Big Board rankings. As you might expect, there are some disconnects between CBS and the Big Board rankings. Not a big thing; any two rankings in this less than precise evaluation process will differ significantly. That's pretty much reflected in the millions of Mock Drafts and their revisions done each year.

Here is the key in all of this, regardless how you look at the rankings, the list represents the (59) potential draftees the Steelers have had significant contact with during the process starting with the Senior Bowl and ending with personal visits to the facility in Pittsburgh. There are likely a few more we don't know about, but the list is pretty specific and distills the list of 1000 players from the CBS Sports Prospect list to something a bit more manageable. Results from 2009 tell us that there will probably be 3-6 of these guys picked in rounds 1-7 and another 1-3 as UDFAs.
The hierarchy of importance to consider:
1) All of the guys listed have had a (reported) face-to-face contact of some type.
2) The guys with contacts twice outside of Pittsburgh are next (Senior Bowl, Combine, Pro Day, visits/workouts from Steelers personnel).
3) Two of the contacts mentioned in #2 above.
4) A visit to Pittsburgh for a personal interview. There are 30 of those.
5) The mother lode - Two contacts from # 2 >PLUS< a visit to Pittsburgh = pure gold. Those names are highlighted in blue. These multi-contact + visit guys are regarded highest by the Steelers and have a good track record for being chosen in previous drafts.
