Altuve and Stanton

Who should win? Judge and Stanton

The Astros were stacked from top to bottom. They'd have won the division even without Altuve. Hell, they lost Correa for months and Marwin Gonzalez OPSed fukkin .900
The Yankees are dead in the water without that 1st half from Judge.

Stanton is just obvious.

Should players of better teams be penalized? Altuve did have an amazing year.

Altuve’s MVP leadership rubbed off on Marwin:wow:

You're gonna get into the whole "best player vs most valuable" argument

I'd argue that probably...because Altuve plays 2B, he's the more valuable guy. He was about as impactful offensively as Judge was last season while playing a much more important position.
But you do kinda take a bit of a hit when an equally great offensive player -- who plays a more important defensive position than you (Correa) -- gets hurt for 7 weeks or whatever it was...and you still win the division by 20 friggin games.

If MLB wants to do a "most valuable" and "best player" award...it would clear a lot of these arguments up.

But they never will.

The fact that it's a most "valuable" player award makes it a gray area and brings in the "best player vs most valuable" argument. What if it was a "player with the best season" award? At that point, it'd have to be based just on player stats and not team success, huh?

Well look, when A-Rod won the award for the last place Texas Rangers, people had a problem with it, but WTF...he was the best player in the game (edit - League...cuz...Barry Bonds and shyt)...even if it didn't necessarily translate to a whole lot of wins.

I mean this stuff kinda depends on the year, the team...a lot of different things.

I'd vote for Judge. But I have absolutely no problem with Altuve winning it.
He's deserving too.

Only two MLB players have won the MVP as rookies.
Freddie Lynn is one of them.

I can't think of the other. (edit - it was Ichiro)

Judge is trying to be the 3rd.
