You cannot tell me that someone wasn’t willing to pay him 20 plus million per year in the free market with more guaranteed

I doubt it tbh, Barrett's had a good two year run but he was underwhelming before that and turns 29 this year. Even if the total contract was bigger the guarantees and signing bonus likely wouldn't have been. Bucs would've had to lowball him in the $10m-$12m range to force his hand.

Combine that with no-state income tax + playing for rings and it was an easy choice.
