Every GM will miss on picks, but people try to go at Belichick without adding any context, and most people are beyond disingenuous in their arguments, or just clueless. Not talking about you as you're posting a tweet, but hindsight is 20/20. The Patriots pick at the end of the first round EVERY year. They are often looking to just fill in holes on the team with players that can play multiple positions and line-up multiple places. You're not always going for a home-run at that point in the draft. Let's go year by year there, and we will post the draft pick and the five players drafted BEFORE and AFTER the Patriots pick.
2014: Easley was a boom or bust with his injury, and the Patriots went for it.
-Marcus Smith, Deonne Buccanon, and Kelvin Benjamin drafted before.
-Jimmy Ward, Bradley Roby, and Teddy Bridgewater drafted after. Take out Bridgewater as the Patriots weren't drafting a QB, and the next pick was Xavier Su-a-Filo.
2015: Malcom Brown
-Philip Dorsett, Laken Tomlinson, and Damarious Randall drafted before.
-Landon Collin, Donovan Smith, and Mario Edwards Jr. (Two very good players there, but the Patriots didn't need a safety then)
2016: Stolen pick
2017: Traded for Cooks
2018: Sony Michel (I think he's been more than fine, as you can't control the injuries he's had. He was important in their Rams Super Bowl victory season)
-Terrell Edmunds, Taven Bryan, and Mike Hughes drafted before.
-Lamar, Austin Corbett, and Will Hernandez drafted after. Nick Chubb was the next HB drafted though, and if we remove Lamar, he'd be in the next three.
2019: N'Keal Harry (Tried to get Brady a jump ball weapon, and he has not worked out well)
-L.J. Collier, Deandre Baker, and Kaleb McGary drafted before.
-Byron Murphy, Rock Ya-Sin, and Jawaan Taylor drafted after.
People can cherry pick and manipulate statistics and whatever all they want, but his drafts have not been as bad as people like to claim.
