even some of the bigger awards they normally present were just pre-show stuff.So a Hip Hop Award can’t be presented on television with LL hosting
and Busta Rhymes DID get an award

that's another thing.
This was on CBS. They weren't about to do a 4-5 hour show like how MTV used to do.
Doechii wasn't there. If you were hip-hop anything and you were there, you were on stage except for Freddie Gibbs
Doechii wasn’t there I don’t think. She did beat out Kendrick for Best Hip Hop and she also won Best Choreography.

Did Every Contemporary Rapper Turn Down the VMAs?
The show was hosted by LL Cool J. The marquee hip-hop performer was Busta Rhymes. Glorilla did step on stage for a bit during Busta’s set, but she, of course, didn’t do anything of her own. Did the VMAs try to book any contemporary rappers, or are the producers banking on Gen X parents watching it with their teenage kids? Busta Rhymes’ set was fine, fast-rapping and everything you might expect, but it’s not a great sign for an awards show when you present no rap awards and you’ve got Sombr there instead of a legitimate representation of one of the country’s biggest genre.

there's maybe 5 acts that woulda made some sense to be out there (2 of em woulda made too much sense)
Clipse, but I think they're on tour.
Tyler The Creator, also on tour in Japan.
Freddie Gibbs who was there
the two that made so much sense it doesn't make sense why they didn't do anything
Gunna (who was there, with an added bonus that Thugger's down for the count, him performing woulda been crazy)
and most importantly,
Cardi B. She got an album dropping in 2 weeks. She's doing her lil promo, but that's the best spot for her to perform cuz I think people stopped playing Outside. Her team not doing what they need to.
