Former Thrasher employee thinks that Braves might want to build an arena near their ballpark/The Battery. It makes sense to have that area active year round and it’s in a much better location

Unless they knock down the mall or galleria center..there’s no room over there.

I think the area the location is in is ok, I just wish it was a little more on the Alpharetta side . That part where they’re building the arena is the only one in the state with a real hockey culture..most of the ice rinks in the state are in that area, the thrashers practiced there, it’s the only part of the state with high school ice hockey teams, it’s a ton of transplants from the north & that’s where most Thrasher season ticket holders were.

Sucks for me cause I’m like an hour from there but I’ll go to as many weekend games as I can

Yea, him and economist on Blue Sky are convinced that Braves particularly an exec that grew up a Thrashers fan are more likely to get an expansion team than this group. They are convinced on the location of this group has the funding to get it done. I get the hockey base is there, but being that far out in the burbs doesn’t make sense for a hockey team imo. There is a reason for example the Sens are building a arena downtown instead of Kanata.

I wish it was downtown too, but downtown Atlanta is really black. White folks were terrified to go to the old Braves stadium, that’s partly why they moved.

When the thrashers were here, a lot of cacs were complaining about the location of Philips Arena (code for they were scared to go downtown).

There’s already a negative perception of the city to white folks in the suburbs…I’m not too sure hockey can work downtown.

The Falcons and Hawks thrive cause half or more than half of the crowd is always black. Atlanta United games stay full because of all the young millennials. Hockey is still low key a conservative sport that doesn’t have that type of young audience
