We haven't really had a world yet in which being reflexively pro-Israel was seen as a political liability that a candidate had to disavow, rather than the reverse. If this continues, it could substantially transform US political dynamics.

Notable this is happening just months after the president declared he’d use the full force of the state to suppress criticism of Israel. That has…not worked, which should inform our understanding of how well the crackdown on “not being conservative” will go.

I believe Team Cuomo has determined that being too pro-Israel in this race is a loser.
Really it's the voters who are driving the bus here. And kudos to Mamdani for sticking to the right (and popular) position.
