The reaction to this race from most elected Dems is one more data point that "mainstream" centrist/center-left politicians/donors/power brokers/business leaders/journalists/etc. would rather have far right fascists in power than the left.

This trend has held over time and across a wide range of countries. A recent prominent example was when Jeremy Corbyn was leader of the Labour Party in the UK. It came out later that many Labour politicians/consultants/commentators/etc. wanted Labour to lose elections under Corbyn. If Bernie Sanders had become Dem nominee in 2020, we would have seen something similar.

Does anyone put much stock in the reluctant endorsements made by people like Jeffries and Hochul? In their heart of hearts, I am 100% sure they would be thrilled if Mamdani lost.

Donor driven party, they treated trump better in 2016-2018 than they're treating zohran someone in their own party :mjlol:

Is it possible to disagree with his overly ambitious ramblings, and plans without being donor affiliated?
Its possible, but this party is marketed as big tent. If the tent big enough for blue dogs and people like Liz Cheney to campaign with it damn sure should be for zohran who policies mirror FDR

nothing about what Zohran advocates for is similar to FDR.
Zohran advocates for social programs, FDR had even more ambitious social programs. His thought process is absolutely similar to FDR, SS and taxing the rich is socialist ss it gets. And fdr was for both

But like I said are we making this tent bigger or smaller ?

We lost the popular vote with a big tent. We’re shrinking it.

NYC is also a test case of how a public campaign finance system can help an outsider be competitive.

Most outside candidates need to become national figures in order to raise funds to take out an incumbent or win a primary against establishment figures.

It's kind of crazy that all these people are up in arms about Mamdani's proposals supposedly because they are impossible to implement and will not work.

If they are so sure that Mamdani will fail, why are they bothered by his proposals? They can just watch him fail and laugh it off. Mamdani's proposals would just go down in a long list of promises made by politicians that never came close to fruition.

In reality, they are up in arms because they are afraid that his proposals WILL succeed. Any time people get a taste of public services and benefits that are meant to enhance the lives of the masses, they love them and it is almost impossible to get rid of them. THAT is what the elites are afraid of.
