Mary for Mayor :blessed:

She's going to win, but I personally liked Kinloch more. I love his "solve poverty, not criminalize it" message. He seems to understand the need to address the root causes of crime -- poverty, lack of opportunity, and disinvestment -- instead of just punishing the symptoms.

Since kicking off his campaign, Kinloch has been adamant about investing in neighborhoods and tackling poverty in the city, which he has said fuels crime. Penalties against curfew violations are not enough, and he would not have supported City Council's latest vote to increase those fines, he said.

Kinloch said he wants to confront the underlying causes of crime through a comprehensive public safety strategy built on eradicating poverty.

“Punitive actions against parents for kids out after curfew is at best a poor band-aid," Kinloch said in a statement. "It doesn’t attack root causes of crime or violence. It hurts the relationships between police and the community that we desperately need to rebuild.

"It’s time we solve poverty, not criminalize it. The best way to approach youth violence is to create the right outlets and opportunities for youth, and the resources to support them."

Kinloch outlined a plan to build 10 grocery stores in “strategic locations” to “end food deserts” in Detroit, add 10,000 new units of affordable units through a housing “strike force,” and further support for federally-funded job training and downpayment assistance programs.

His answer about Trump and the national guard ended his chapter. Mary was never losing this.

That's why I ultimately voted for her in the general. Him being a mega-church pastor + potentially being open to the National Guard on the streets of Detroit was too much of a downside.

And for the next three years because of political expediency anyone that wants to ascend politically is gonna have to coddle them and say “it’s okay, forget all the countless lives you destroyed, you were desperate and economically anxious, that’s not what you voted for”:therethere:
