Two Miami women were taken to the Florida Keys jail on charges they stole a Rolex from a tourist in Key West earlier this month.
Johnina Miller, 26, and Hugana Davis, 38, are accused of being part of a larger crime ring dubbed the "foxy ladies" in which women throughout South Florida go to bars, drug men's drinks, then rip them off, says Key West Police Department spokeswoman Alyson Crean.
She says detectives from the Broward Sheriff's Office and Fort Lauderdale Police Department are working to build cases against Miller and Davis in those jurisdictions. In fact, the BSO has already charged the two up there, Crean says.
Miller and Davis are accused of trying to rip off a Sarasota man May 23 at the Westin Key Resort and Marina, where the man was staying.
Crean says he was at the Red Garter bar on Duval Street when two women struck up a conversation with him. After a few drinks, the three headed to the man's boat. At the dock, the women allegedly began trying to pull the man's Rolex off his arm. After several tries, he fell down and they took the watch and fled.
Crean says a witness saw the scuffle and watched the women get into a cab. He took down the cab's number and called police, who intercepted the cab and detained the women.
Miller and Davis are charged with robbery and using another person's identification. Miller, arrested back at the Westin, is being held on $62,000 bond. Davis, being held on $60,000 bond, was arrested at 1604 N. Roosevelt Blvd., the city police station.
Wanted for a May 10 Key West robbery is alleged Miller and Davis cohort Chantelle Juanita Hadley, 20.
Crean says that day, a Boynton Beach man was at the Rick's entertainment complex on Duval Street when a woman approached him, asking him to dance. After telling her no numerous times, he became suspicious she might try to slip a drug into his drink, so he left the bar.
Crean says the woman followed him, they argued and she ripped the guy's Rolex from his arm and fled. The victim reportedly identified Hadley from a photo lineup and a warrant was issued her for arrest on Tuesday.
