Somewhat, names like Tamika, Jamelia, Omari, Tanisha all came from Jamaica, which your got from the Indians.
Yeah that is true

Even in Spanish speaking countries like Costa Rica the black population uses those names. If you ever go to the Limon' side of the country where most of the blacks live you come across a lot of Tanishas

I dont know if the thread starter is white or just not able to sympathize but as a non-american black male im somewhat of a outsider looking in on the topic and I have wondered about question number 1 too as far as the origins of the names and how/when the trend started. If you read my initial posts you'll see the point i was trying to make

BTW

Jamaicans, Haitians, South American blacks and all other black from the Caribbean went through the same brainwashing too. Heck according to history the atrocities that caribbean black went through were far worse than those in North America because of the income level and social status of the typical slave owners in the caribbean compared to that of North America. I guess you could say we adopted our captors names and moved on rather than trying to recreate separate identities.

Again I don't know why this is important but for the second or third time in this thread, I'm mixed Belgian (white) and Central African (Black).

Might have to start submitting my DNA before starting threads here :russ:

In North-America's United States, when something is said people always want to know the racial makeup and ethnicity of the person speaking so they know how to evaluate a reaction/response.

I know it doesnt make much sense to you but it does here due to the twisted history of the country and race relations here.

Nah I know, @Fredrick Thuglas made that clear, just trying to lighten up the discussion here :yeshrug:

it is funny. first people made fun of african americans for not adopting whiter names like the asian immigrants who come to this country will in a heartbeat, but now i notice whites getting creative with the spelling and naming of their kids. ridicule then copy.

My homegirl just gave birth to her son last night, kids name is Jaxon
