If X has absolutely no effect on Y,
PLEASE STOP USING THIS ONE, BROTHER! THESE DAYS, NOBODY BELIEVES THAT THERE'S ANYTHING THAT HAS ABSOLUTELY NO EFFECT WHATSOEVER ON EVERYTHING ELSE, DUDE! WE'RE ALL AWARE THAT EVERYTHING, EVERY IMAGINABLE THING, IS ALWAYS AND CONSTANTLY AND FOREVER EFFECTING, IN SOME WAY, EVERY OTHER THING IN THIS UNIVERSE, AND PROBABLY IN OTHER UNIVERSES, MEAN GENE!

This is a terrible idea. You would send more people into poverty.

I don't believe in a minimum wage period. Abolishing it at a federal level is just my compromise, in a perfect world there would be no minimum wage at the state or federal level.

The government no right to tell private businesses what they can pay individual workers.

Like 3 percent of workers make minimum wage anyway.

If raising the minimum wage has absolute no effect on the labor market, then we should start re-writing the text books on micro economics. Economics is built on the concept of supply and demand--it's most simple mathematical model.

That means the theory of the marginal utility of labor is wrong, and the theory of demand is basically also wrong too. I mean none of the employees go their hours cut, and none of the employers cut their labor force?

Or were the employers able to pass the increase costs onto the consumers with higher prices? That's another theory of economics that is proven to be wrong--- in a highly competitive environment firms take the market price as given.

Don't teachers make 40k on average? Seems pretty pointless to spend 4 years in school just to make 10k more than someone with no education.

Why not make the minimum wage 20 dollars or 30 dollars an hour? Then to make things even more equal lets put a maximum wage on engineers and other overly paid STEM majors at around 100k. Seems fair to me.
No one is saying these things just pay people a living wage and not peanuts. At the very least lets keep up with inflation these companies that pay minimum wage dont even do that alot of times.

This is precisely his point. NATIONALLY only 2% of people make minimum wage. This is why states and cities should not be limited to higher floors unless they demand it.

It should be tied to inflation and to a Cost Of Living Index (like the military does for housing allowances).

$15/hr in New York City/San Fran and $15/hr in BumfukkEgypt, Wyoming are 2 different wages.
IMO the CPI is fukked...cause people would stay complaining about it.

If you even own an iPhone i'm liable to say that may be out of your budget.

With that rationale, people would make less...these jobs would offer people less money if they could....a higher federal minimum wage is needed. Florida is right there with the federal minimum wage...dog, no one can survive off of that. Let's be for real, is it to much to have people at least earning $28000-$30000 at the minimum? Jesus

Which.

Is.

Why.

You can't arbitrarily keep raising it.

Let me ask you something.

Whats wrong with a $50 minimum wage? Why stop at $15?

You won't abolish poverty by moving the wage floor.

You're just talking magic at that point. :stopitslime:

It's just about making a wage to basically survive dude, Florida doesn't have Medicaid expansion and most of the jobs out are jobs that were brought in by companies and corporations who received incentives or pay outs to establish here..but yet the jobs created or low wage/minimum wage jobs...

Bruh, you're never going to survive if you're doing the bare minimum. We need to just accept this.

The MW just says: "in this huge, complicated country, if you do ANY work for any period of time, this is the bare minimum you must be paid"

Thats it.

If you want to push for higher wages, you might as well start changing social pressures to encourage companies to become more compassionate OR legislate how private companies allocate their own funds OR get some skills yourself.

$30000 is today's economy...is just about enough for an adult to survive wouldn't you agree??? Why do you have to be absurd and start at $50?!?!

Push companies to be compassionate?? Wtf kind of bullshyt is that?? Legislate private companies or how they allocate funds? Lmao . Listen dog I'm a young man finishing up my degree, I hustle on my own on and off the books to make the $$ for me and my fam to do what we need to do to progress and get by...I can't say the same for everyone or even people I work with...it's sad dog..I work with what is considered a "luxury " brand or high end company..the wages they pay some of their employees is disgusting.
