Man most of the cats that get on now are from god knows where- watched a thousand films growing up- learned directing, shooting, and editing off Youtube videos- then made some hot shyt with their IPhone- got a internet buzz and then some higher ups at a studio or streaming giant reached out to them to create a project for them. Its either that or you have serious connections or a family member in the game. All that film school and $200K in debt ain't even really the wave anymore.

It never was. Prestige and tuition got raised off a few alumni who did big things and the lie that you have to go to college for everything.

no accountability.

you goto Columbia, so you should have SOME fukkin booksmarts.

Just sounds like sour grapes of getting fleeced on your own merit.

College is an INVESTMENT. And like any other investment, it can go left as well if you don't research your shyt and choose wisely.
People go to college as teenagers bro. Let’s stop pretending that this was how people were being taught to think of college until the past decade.

It was more about getting training. We live in a different era now. In 1997, people didn’t have the equipment or means to get their shift off independently and be discovered.

Filmmaking should be a trade school program. Shouldn't be a degree at these top tier schools paying top tier tuition and come out making 40-50k a year.

I get that 800 people applied for a program that had 72 spots and self accountability is definitely an issue, but most of those 72 spots are barely going to go on to be any more than production assistants and gaffers. It's a system that's going to collapse on itself. Especially as you really don't need to go to school to be a filmmaker.
Keep in mind that Columbia fleeced those other 700+ applicants with $100 application fees only to be rejected... :mjlol:...shyts horrible

If you are spending that kind of money, I would think 60% of it is to get that alumni connect/hookup.

Getting a degree in English/Writing/Art History is so fukken tricky.

There is no excuse for that guy to be working in antique shop to make ends meet.

Columbias School of Social Work is just as bad. Pay 150k in student loans to make 45K in NYC. I know a girl who did just that.
Same thing with my cousin, She went to CUNY Hunter for undergrad but ended up going to Fordham University for Social work (86,000). She’s making some good money but unfortunately she has two kids by a rapping nikka whose hoping to blow up even though he’s close to 40

Everyone I know who went to a prestigious social work school makes a bit more than that and had considerably less in loans via scholarships. Either she has the means or she took out cost of living loans too.

I can't be too critical cause I went to school for sociology and now I'm a photographer so to a degree I did waste time and money. But, I only owe like 14k, I could pay off my debt NOW if I felt like it but I'm letting my investments take off before I do that. People just need to stop acting like 100k loans are something that's manageable for the average person. They don't put it into perspective their loan alone is more money than the average salary of almost every person in this country 2-5x even if you were a doctor or lawyer you get into a bad accident and can't work you'll be automatically fukked having to pay like 500-1000 a month on that with interest. Like I really appreciate the fact even tho I fukked up going to school it won't kill me.

Is 23 and still in school, im just realizing how much of a scam this shyt is. I'm leaving my uni and just going to community College for 2 years so I can get my associates and certs in Cyber Security.

To be real in IT you don’t need a bachelors unless you’re trying to get into upper management. For cyber security the Associates is all you need, mix that in with some certs, the CEH. Get security clearances and you’re money
