You can find many books on Rome's history. It's more about knowing biblical history as well.

Yeshua (Jesus) lived in the time of the Roman Empire. A lot of the things He did was to show that He was truly the son of God and that the Roman gods were false. I recommend to go read the story of Yeshua and the miracles He performed. Go read about the gods that the Romans worshipped. A lot of those false gods have some type of power related to them, while Yeshua showed (through the miracles He performed) that He is actually who He claims to be and that He controls everything that the Romans claimed the false gods controlled.

I would say reading commentaries about the time of Yeshua and the time of the Apostles would be a good start. At that point, you'll have a feel of what you're looking for and can search for books you want to read on the subject.
