* SmackDown opens with WWE Intercontinental Champion The Miz and Maryse out for MizTV. Zack Ryder interrupts and The Miz teased that he would give Ryder a title shot but Ryder's already booked in a match with Baron Corbin

* Baron Corbin got the easy win over Zack Ryder. After the match, Corbin beat Ryder down again but Dolph Ziggler made the save and they brawled

* Emma defeated Paige in a quick match

* Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady defeated The Ascension to advance in the tag team tournament

* AJ Styles defeated Alberto Del Rio

* Backstage comedy segment with Fandango and The Golden Truth

* The Vaudevillains defeated Goldust and R-Truth in a quick match to advance in the tag team tournament

* Sami Zayn vs. Chris Jericho was a hot main event with Dean Ambrose and Kevin Owens on commentary, and providing distractions. Good action in the ring and entertaining stuff outside. Owens interfered to cause the disqualification, which led to the babyfaces standing tall to end SmackDown

Doc Gallows And Karl Anderson At WWE Tapings (Photo), Apollo Crews On Main Event, Xavier Woods - WrestlingInc.com

Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson interrupted a dark match between local wrestlers before tonight's WWE Main Event tapings in San Diego. Cameras were rolling so it's possible we see the segment in the near future. They destroyed the local wrestlers and cut a promo on how nobody in WWE is safe now that they're here. They got a good reaction when they first appeared but got some heat before the promo was over. Below is a photo:

As noted, AJ Styles may have suffered a neck injury after being dropped on his head at Tuesday's WWE SmackDown tapings during a match with Alberto Del Rio. Del Rio reportedly botched a move and dropped Styles on his head.

We heard from another correspondent in attendance who said the spot looked pretty bad from where he was sitting in the 8th row. However, Styles appears to be fine after the injury scare as he tweeted a fan who is expecting to see him at the live event in Dubai this week. AJ tweeted the following when the fan asked if he will still be there

Wonder how they'll book Corbin. Maybe put him on a path of destruction thru the first few months? I anticipate a match with Dolph at payback. I doubt he doesn't go over.

Not surprised that enzo and cass or the vaudevillians advanced. I anticipate enzo and cass to be heavy favorites but being fairly new to the main roster, I'm skeptical on their booking. Don't remember if they face the Dudley boys before the finals.

Paige looks to be completely buried. Nothing of relevance with her.

Glad styles is ok.

The main event looks good. I wouldn't be surprised if on raw or atleast next week's show, we get Owens and Jericho vs Zayn and Ambrose.

Not sure how I feel about miz being champion. They either don't book him right or he doesn't have the potential. I blame it on the booking. Whole show looked to be mainly nxt stars mostly, and many haven't been up even a year. That seems to be the direction they're heading in. So the intercontinental title holder gets pushed to the beginning for a promo and the U.S. Title holder is on the B program, if you can even call it that. They got bumped for the new guys that get more crowd reaction. Maybe they knew what they were doing when they took the belt off Owens but I can't tell. The champion wasn't there, the tag team champions weren't there, no cena, no authority, no wyatt family, no league of nations. They should book their other champions better. Or give the titles to wrestlers that would have an impact on them. Use it to build up talent. A brand split seems imminent and with the intercontinental title being second on the list, it would most surely be for smackdown. I think they should give it to someone who will do it justice or atleast wrestle on the show. Same with U.S. Title. I wouldn't be surprised if Kalisto gets forgotten for a bit while they focus on the new guys.


Glad that gallows and Anderson are here. Them attacking the usos makes me think that maybe they won't win the tourney and a match will occur at payback.

Paige, Naomi & Tamina got tossed aside after PCB and BAD broke up. She probably could benefit from a gimmick tweak, she's stale IMO!
