None of those nikkaz are at his table anyway
Describe the table because the ONLY reason Em ain't at that table is because he's a recluse and is content with his life and $$$. Em's one of the few artist who can legit still sell 500,000+ in one week with no need for any new rules of a company buying his records or counting streams.

That's just as much off his being white as off him being a good rapper.

White guys just sell often times

Em has even said so himself

His mention of it in the "A Star is Born" song (he also mentioned Em/Nelly sales in "Excuse Me Miss") and I'm pretty sure he tweeted happily when MCHG was certified platinum and used the new rules hashtag which is what some people are using in here.

Heck I even think he mentioned Kanye going plat in a week when he and Kanye were close even though Kanye never technically did.

It's just one of those things that he seemed to gradually always mention about and you just feel as a hip hop heavyweight himself it's one of the things he wants to acclaim: that he went platinum in a week.

And again, how he's approached his last two albums business wise I'm all for, but I still won't count it as going platinum in a week the same way I don't count Drake's Views going platinum as a week like some do cuz they try to add in streams now to inflate the numbers.
I respect this opinion. Don't agree but I respect it

Well artistic value is a matter of opinion. I feel what you saying.

I'm talking about business value in this thread though, which Em is shoulder to shoulder with Jay with.

Now artistic wise, that's a whole nother topic lol. I happen to like Em and put him in the same elite tier with Jay but I know many on here don't and that's cool.

Not arguing that at all. Numbers are numbers though. They don't put an asterisk next to someone cuz of their skin color haha.

Just to be clear again, I'm all for Jay's business methods. I just view platinum in a week as 1,000,000 people physically buying your album. Not through a phone company or a music service, but off the strength of strictly seeking out your album. I know it's 2017 and things are different and so I'm all for Jay reworking the system but I just don't think any artist should be on the list of platinum in a week unless they get 1mil the old school consumer way. It really don't matter though cuz Jay gonna be rich and sell regardless lol

i disagree here

historically in HipHop u had people winnin radio station raffles and shyt

datz like wen hot97 wud give away a Nas album "for free" to a lucky caller wen in fact it's not free it was paid 4 but to give away as a part of somethin

Like sprint gave away da album "for free" even tho it wasnt really for free but a part of a promotion

same deal , jus bigger

anyway albums sold is more than popularity

marketing, the rollout of the albumz and the singles are equally important

Jay usually sells around 400,000 to 500,000 first week every time without any streams or whatever. When people say Em isn't at the table they mean that he's the only guy who gets put in top 5 conversations off the strength of rappity rap shyt whereas everyone else it has more to do with album quality. Think of any of the greats and put them with Eminem and rank their discographies--Em would lose always. If we did a top 5 Jay Z and Eminem album 4/5 would belong to Jay. Same with Nas. Same with Pac. Same if we did a best 2 out of 3 or 3/4 (if you count LAD as two) with Biggie, etc. Eminem has not had any influence on hip hop culture since he left after Encore. Now he's just a guy who raps but the general hip hop audience doesn't care. Look @ the discussion around this album versus MMLP 2.

I fux with Jay and this album...but the math is funny on this "platinum".

I think he's still a top rapper in the game, but his days of legit selling a million in one week are gone. He's still gonna do his numbers, but he's not that do all his numbers in one week guy.

I think that time was around the Dynasty, Blueprint days...i legit think he would have done a million in a week with both those albums, but Jay might be the most bootlegged artist of all time so we'll never know.

I don't disagree with you at all....but when it comes to selling a milli in a week I'm more impressed by 50 and Wayne doing it than Eminem and Adele.

Plus when it's all said and done no one counts MCHG or this as selling Platinum in a week even tho it got certified.

I do hope that Jigga does a million in week 2 cause I like the project that much.

But honestly he's never been the most popular rapper out except maybe in 1998... maybe

This is true which makes his longevity even more impressive to me. Him and Em actually...that at their 'old' age they are still able to sell a lot, create a huge buzz, and bring in big business. They're the only two old rappers who business wise can still do stadium shows, sell big numbers in the first week, etc. I got mad respect for both of 'em. And Jay's business acumen the past decade is incredible to watch.
