Why do you need one? Idk, probably the same reason you need to know alotta bullshyt for a job that you never use once you get the job.

As for road test, they only teach you enough to pass the DMV test, which is how to back up in a spot(usually takes a week to learn how to back, regardless of if you ever drove a truck or not) and how to drive a truck without hitting curbs. :manny:
Yo state must be way easier than mine (SC)
Been in school 2 weeks and we've been doing class work and learning the pre trip inspection
Won't start driving until this week

Driving trucks is easy.
I drove a 10 speed manual truck from to Dallas from our academy in real Dallas traffic like my 4th day on the road.

Backing is hard and shifting is a pain in the ass.

What do you mean?

If you mean choosing this route instead of the route I went, it's because $40 an hour to work on railroads is better than 36 cents per mile to drive a stick shift over the road and blow your left knee out in the next 5 years :martin:

So just found this out.

In Texas there are places that allow you to rent a semi truck, so you can get your CDL.

Since this is not an actually school, you do not get hired on by a company, HOWEVER certain programs offer job assistant.

This particular guy who we met at the DMV while we were doing our road test, was one dude who rented CDL trucks to students.

How it works is that he rents you a 28 foot AUTOMATIC transmission truck, so that you EASILY pass the CDL road test(as opposed to my school where we drive 53 foot trailers and a manual stick shift :scusthov: )

Once you get the CDL he has a contract with the railroads and he will get you a job there.

They start around 40 an hour.

The beauty of working at the railroads is that while you DO NEED A CDL, you DO NOT drive a truck whatsoever while actually working there.

Just some extra advice for anyone looking for work.

Definitely would of took this route if I knew better
Who? Where? nikka I want to apply today!!

Breh I don't know what the requirements are, I work for the city, my boy put me on to this job and he said most of them are easily clearing 100k and I seen it firsthand. He also told me to talk to them and they might put me on, so I just walk around sayin wassup to cats. These guys look dirty and malnourished but they are definitely winnin.
Shiiiiiit, my mom recently talked about how much some people she knows makes working for the city.

The wages she was mentioning:snoop:I bust my ass loading trucks and serving people for 1/3 the wages:mjcry:

Not every school is the same, at my school we did class work the first week took the permit test at the end then we had a week off, came back and started driving and doing yard skills for the next 2 weeks until we took our road test.
