I already knew who it was before I clicked. A lot these Gen X ex players feel the need the need to prove their gangsta as if they still need the approval of hood ninjas.

In my experience. basketball players (ones that went pro) spent all their time in the gym/court, not in the streets.
People who remember them usually be on some, yeah i remember seeing him in school, he was quiet,
not some yeah that dude had a real rep out here.

Most ball players are not in the streets but they are around the streets.

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
I’m not gonna make excuses but the CIA flooding the streets with crack really did a number on us. We never recovered from it. I just missed being part of generation x but my dad told me how disgusted he was with black “men’s” behavior during the 80s/early 90s. :francis:
They are excuses but the other way. In every era of life, black folks that made it out of the ghetto, returned to the ghetto to be all up in the projects. Even Hov with that line, was an old ass nikka, still shooting videos and doing photo ops in the ghetto. Them old heads in the 70s was coming right back. All those singers and entertainers was right back. We got pics of MJ in the deep hoods. nikka was out in the hoods of Brazil connecting.

Growing up fukked up don’t leave you cause you get money. You grew up 18 years plus in that habitat. Some of your family and friends are still in it. You still hear about daily from those there. You identify with it. You feel normal in it. You feel foreign around these rich whites and their boring culture

You gotta go back. You just HAVE to. Hell we all do it if we came from there. I LOVE going home to Philly to see my people. I make over 75k a year but damn if I’m not right out with cuz, fukking around on the block, having a good time when I come up. Should I probably say “it’s too dangerous, meet me at my hotel or you come to me?” Probably. But then I’d feel like the piece of shyt who abandoned them and changed.

I think if I grew up in the burbs, then it’d be weird. But you always gonna go where it feels like home

I always interpreted Stephen Jackson as a lost nikka. Athletics saved him. He means well, but he clearly has identity issues. I wonder if he grew up with his dad.
