Eh. So his life isn't that great 30 years after his 15 minutes of fame ended. This isn't much of a story. He's living in a retirement home and he says he's happy. Salute.

A man refusing to take care of himself, ignoring his family's pleas to help himself, and plunging himself headlong into an entirely preventableobesity-ridden, alcohol-fueled diabetic death at 53 isnt a happy ending. Perry is not only harming himself but his family too. He needs to pick himself up, go to behavioural therapy, lose weight and start pissing in toilets.

Reads like he is also hooked on pain killers, that combined with drinking.
Damn this is tragic, I feel for him, but if he doesn't want to be better what can you do.
Only 53

Retirement home already? :dahell:

A crying shame. My grandfather in the Carribean is in his late 70s, strong as a bull and still out and about in the community.

Then again my grand daddy never smoked, only drank casually, walked early every morning, and was never not found doing something. He kept his mond active by working in insurance his whole life. My grandpa also builds houses as a hobby, including the house he still lives in and works on in retirement. Eats mostly fish and chicken. Drinks carrot juice, prune juice and molllasses. Goes to church every Sunday.

Healthy as a babe.

To each his own...it's his path to walk. Wish the best for him.

Cause too many of these dudes come into the league as overgrown children, make millions playing a children's game and never learn what being an adult really means, so when all the parasites that were feasting off them leave they have no idea how to handle themselves. And that's not even taking into account the physical and mental abuse they've suffered for years.

End of the day though, we all have a hard life, I can't really feel and kind of sympathy or empathy (or anymore than I do for the average person struggling to get by) for men who got paid millions to play a game.
I get what you're saying but the whole "kids game" mindset we as fans have like it's all easy is garbage. To be a top level athlete requires alot of dedication/discipline & sacrifice the average person couldn't maintain

Oh I'm not implying it's easy by referring to it as a kid's game, just that it is still essentially a kid's game only played at a world class level. These dudes went from being 17,18,19 year old high school and college kids to all of a sudden making millions some of them making generational money on a national and international scale. My kid's game comment had to do with the mindstate of the players being drafted not the game itself.

Then their career plays out, and for the most part they stay surrounded by yes men and lawyers and accountants, most of them don't have to make a real life decision until well after their playing days, and by then are at a serious disadvantage compared to the rest of society. It's laziness and apathy on their part by not taking things into their own hands to learn how to handle their own money both during and after their playing days, and just blatant naivete on their part by trusting the people around them to set them up for the future and to be there with/for them when times get a little rough. It sucks, but there are far too many cautionary tales at this point to feel any sympathy for any of these players falling into this kind of physical, finanicial, and emotional place.
