I was given this book by a biological family member I met for the first time later in life. Had never heard of it before. I don't really try to live by it but it can show you how other people around you are operating.

There's a few laws that are practical, like Never Outshine the Master :mjpls:. This helped me with work and other professional relationships as I had a tendency to try to dominate situations with superiors.

Another good one is Avoid The Unhappy and Unlucky. If you have someone in your life that is constantly struggling and dealing with drama because of their own decisions, distance yourself from them.

I think it's a good read as long as it's not taken 100% literally.

some are applicable like playing sucka to catch a sucka, not outdoing your master and always saying less than necessary are pretty useful for everyday interactions in this cracka world :yeshrug: some others come natural to me so i dont think about them in my daily

Why every black person i know entire book collection consist of self help type shyt?
chicken soup for your wallet, how to keep a woman, spiritual empowerment type shyt. etc etc. Entire book collection is basically full of liberal arts degree textbooks.

Never hear brehs talking about pure science fiction novels or anything fun. just stay reading about other peoples opinions on shyt.

I like the warning signs of a shady muthafukka.
Stuff like when people seem ungrateful, its a warning sign of usurption. Anyone you brought up that doesnt humble themselves probably believes your success is because of them, and really they deserve that level.

Cut em off early and hard. The whole Saving Anna shyt was textbook 48 laws of power, where everyone ignored the clear signs this bytch was a user.

Because "self help" books can help you with your actual life. Science fiction books are just entertainment for nerds.

Self help books help the author make money off you. that's it. If you want to read a book that actually helps with your life, reading intro to coding, or some shyt where you might learn an actually marketable skill, People already agree liberal arts majors are useless, yet stay reading the same shyt in their free time thinking they really gonna do something with that highly subjective knowledge.

Offtopic, but i think this would be a nice thread topic. Currently reading a classic called "time" in Stephen Baxter's manifold series. Decent book. Deals with humans trying to start private space exploration in the year 2011 (interestingly, book was written in 1999 and a lot of its predictions like touchscreens tablets are very accurate). Some of the stuff Elon eventually did was based on this book.

Agree with the rest of your post too. We have had the same set of moldy books circulating in hotep circles since the 90s. And nothing to show for them since any of those books were published.

That sht aint gonna help you. 48 laws is just mental masturbation. No better than a book of fun facts. Actual successful people in industry, academia, or politics havent even heard of that book. You lying to yourself if you think you gonna recreate Selassie or machiavelli's strategies in your life.

Would be better off picking up an actual textbook on economics or physics or behaviorPsych or etc... if you wanna better yourself. Buying those self help books is the same as buying into those instagram scams. Making somebody else rich at your expense.

Like others have said, it’s a cool read, but you’d have to be a sociopath to live like that, and frankly some of them aren’t applicable

I keep in mind

Don’t over talk/share
Make your presence felt and missed
Always make what you do appear easy
Don’t outshine the boss
Protect your reputation
Stay away from bad luck/always sick/infirmed

This.

I’m on Law 34. I’ve enjoyed it reading it here and there.
