Offtopic, but i think this would be a nice thread topic. Currently reading a classic called "time" in Stephen Baxter's manifold series. Decent book. Deals with humans trying to start private space exploration in the year 2011 (interestingly, book was written in 1999 and a lot of its predictions like touchscreens tablets are very accurate). Some of the stuff Elon eventually did was based on this book.

Agree with the rest of your post too. We have had the same set of moldy books circulating in hotep circles since the 90s. And nothing to show for them since any of those books were published.

That sht aint gonna help you. 48 laws is just mental masturbation. No better than a book of fun facts. Actual successful people in industry, academia, or politics havent even heard of that book. You lying to yourself if you think you gonna recreate Selassie or machiavelli's strategies in your life.

Would be better off picking up an actual textbook on economics or physics or behaviorPsych or etc... if you wanna better yourself. Buying those self help books is the same as buying into those instagram scams. Making somebody else rich at your expense.
I mean, guys like Drake, Jay, 50 have openly talked about how they used that book to get where they’ve gotten so :yeshrug:

Self help books help the author make money off you. that's it. If you want to read a book that actually helps with your life, reading intro to coding, or some shyt where you might learn an actually marketable skill, People already agree liberal arts majors are useless, yet stay reading the same shyt in their free time thinking they really gonna do something with that highly subjective knowledge.

Nah I disagree, most successful people will tell you to read self-help and the coding shyt. What's the use of being a nerd and having tech knowledge if you are socially inept - (which is what a lot of people say about tech people) easily manipulated, and make all that tech money but can't manage it, don't know how to invest or talk to people to leverage more pay etc. I watched Game of Thrones and read the books but I'm not into the Sci-fi books and shyt, it's a recession nikkas tryna learn how to win in this game called America

Why every black person i know entire book collection consist of self help type shyt?
chicken soup for your wallet, how to keep a woman, spiritual empowerment type shyt. etc etc. Entire book collection is basically full of liberal arts degree textbooks.

Never hear brehs talking about pure science fiction novels or anything fun. just stay reading about other peoples opinions on shyt.

Black people need self-help, bad enough there are not a lot of black health advocates around.

Yes, thats how they stay successful, endorsement of products like these books. not the actual content of the books. One dude mentioned 50 cent who the author of the book actively works with as a business partner :mjlol:

I haven't read it. But just going by this thread, it seems that the book allows you to not see how Power works but also become part of the machine.

So it seems to be a guide to stockholm syndrome. Especially since most of those people still work for the power structure.

And btw I have the book on Kindle and haven't read it, (I didn't pay and I have the 50th law which I read and didn't pay for either) but yea I know personally for me, trying to break into tech, How to Win Friends and Influence people helps me disarm people as a tatted black man and gain favor in certain situations to leverage for my advantage

Take the baby out with the bathwater, people could read self-help and mix it up with an occasional sci-fi or w/e. I'm reading a "A Brief History of a Sevin Killings"- fiction and Atomic Habits :yeshrug:

Like any other self help book, there are things I can and have applied to my life a lot of things that don’t align with how I live. I agree that we can’t expect a bunch of books to improve our situations, but hearing someone else’s perspective can be valuable if it helps you avoid their mistakes.

I haven’t read any sci-fi since high school. I used to stay in the library reading when I didn’t have practice, but these days I’ll just watch a movie to scratch that itch. It would be a good topic, but I don’t know how many responses you’d get.

Breh, this is bumper sticker knowledge. As simple as that. If it truly helped you that's cool. I just hate to see black people giving up their hard earn money on what is essentially just a motivational speech.

48 laws of power ain't no college textbook lol. Just a random guy who wanted to make some money writing up general sound-good bullshyt. Lot of them ain't even consistent and got the different laws contradicting each other.

laws of power is not a self help book :russ: these are just principals that have always been used by humans to gain advantage over other s through history. its a tool for people to be able to spot people who are playing the game and are trying to achieve a particular goal..

learning new ways to see the real world , will expand ur understanding of it and others.. If u think celebrities' that AWALYS find themselves in the limelight, even though they not had a hit movie, tv show or song in years stays relevant, books like these helps u see what they do. how certain men that rise to power got to do, even though in hindsight they were terrible people. learning from other peoples "opinions" can be beneficial
