5/10/99 "8.1" ... could that ever happen with the right consistent booking again?

I don't see how it would be possible today. Mainly because people don't want to be surprised anymore and don't have the patience to let a story play out IMO.Also because people just don't care about wrestling like they did in the late 90's. Such is life.:ehh:

:what:

the booking is what makes it cool. last night we had a sing off and a dance contest. albert in womens underwear bro. thats not cool. the rock and stone cold were cool, along with everyone else in that era because of the booking. that and the characters, but really characters mean shyt without a good story to go along with it.

you'd be foolish to tell me if you took the talent on the roster and placed them in an engaging story that viewership wouldnt skyrocket. you dont have casual fans anymore. you only have wrestling fans. because the stories suck. soap operas have stupid fukking plots and women are glued to their sets because they're more engaging that the shyt on our tv every monday night.

steve martin once said "be so good they cant ignore you." and that was the case in the attitude era.

without a good story you could have every dream talent on the roster and it wouldnt matter, because casual fans dont care about suplexes and spinebusters.

:edit:

honestly we really just said the same fukking thing. but booking is what makes it the "in thing" again, not a lucky roll of the dice.

Homie... if you've been watching WWF/E for years, then you know that dumb ass skits come with the territory, and I don't care what era we're talking about. Mae Young giving birth to a hand and Mark Henry fondling a transvestite ain't cool either. Albert in women's underwear ain't great TV, but neither was Patterson and Brisco doing Hulk Hogan poses... it's just that goofy type shyt they've always done in addition to the better stuff. I could see if every segment Monday night was as dumb as the Tensai shyt, but it wasn't. You had Brock/Heyman/Vince, Big Show beatin' the brakes off ADR & Ricardo, The Shield beatdown, Rock's title celebration and a face off with Punk... more good shyt than usual honestly. Just like for every Rock/HHH faceoff, you also had Crash Holly getting chased thru Playland by the Headbangers.

of course we're always gonna have to deal with the bullshyt like that, the problem is that when it isnt khali singing you still gonna deal with john cena being a cheese ball. the face of the company.

i guess at the end of the day as long as the company is PG it will never be cool again because without that edge its just bland.

That PG thing is a cop-out. The answer isn't "let them say 'bytch' and 'ass' more, and have a bunch of dikk jokes and bleeding every week so it can be good again!" It's not even as "PG" now as it was 3-4 years ago, so that's no excuse. WWF was "PG" for years and managed to be good- people don't reminisce on Hogan, Savage, DiBiase, Jake, Piper, Warrior, Bret, Perfect, etc. because they were "edgy".

And really, as much as people claim it should go back to how it was in the Attitude Era, it's been proven that most things that "go back" to how it used to be are never fully appreciated once it happens. shyt, look at the Rock. He's been saying goofy comedic shyt forever, and only now does it get criticized by the same people that laughed at all his goofy shyt back in the day. He's cracked jokes way worse than "Cookie-Puss" before, but the times are different and the same fans who thought he was the funniest thing ever in '99 are older now. This is exactly what would happen if they tried to re-do or emulate the Attitude Era. Because despite the belief that Attitude was more "adult", it was actually aimed mostly towards younger people who liked watching shyt with sex, drinking, and "cursing" involved. It's not gonna be as funny or interesting when you're 15 years older and already seen it before.

the point isnt to go back, the point is to go forward. the drop to PG is a step back in programming. the reason the goofy shyt the rock says now looks a lot more goofy is because we're tired of it and theres no progression. the rock never progressed with his audience.

you dont need to to curse or bleed to have a better product. the things you're discussing are superficial.

chris jericho is a perfect example of someone who despite limitations he didnt have when first coming to the company thrived, back in 08 especially. despite not being able to do half the things he was known for he got better. he moved forward. there was growth.

the attitude era was the last time the company had any forward progression. after that they stepped back and said "we need to play it safe, because why risk it all when we're competing against nobody." we dont need a new attitude era, what we need is to get past it.

everyone on this board has a different life now than they did ten years ago. but the product doesnt reflect that well, it didnt grow with us. which is why all those people who loved wrestling 10 years ago dont watch anymore.
