Canelo vs Scull was a struggle version of Canelo vs Lara and it was clear that Scull was outboxing Canelo at some points but spoiling too much

Yeah I mean thats not how you win a pro fight, let alone an undisputed 168 fight. That being said, Scull looked nice doing what he did, he made Canelo look old, one dimensional and flat footed, which is what he is now. He doesn't even jab.

If that fight is in a gym and it's a sparring session, thats a big win to Scull, everyone in the gym is in unison in that regard. But thats not how you win in pro boxing, even if you tagged Canelo's face again and again with little counters (which he did).

And therein lies the Cuban paradox. They box to embarrass you, not get hit, and look good doing it, but that doesn't win pro fights.

Yeah all he needed was half a dozen more legit exchanges in that fight and he was a big chance (this will confuse most casuals however). He did embarrass Alvarez with those counters to the dome when pivoted off the ropes in exchanges though.

At some point a fighter has to sit on his punches, counter, and/or catch and shoot. He can't just jab and circle the ring all night, especially when the opponent is coming forward and making him miss more than 70% of his shots.

Damn… except for Ryan Garcia losing this weekend really didn’t help the sport
I guess the matchmaking could have been better too but it’s mostly on the fighters for not trying hard enough (Ryan, Haney, Ramirez, Barboza, Scull, Canelo)

Only some of the undercard fights on the Canelo card were “good”.
