the guy in question wasn't the one who shot him and wasn't charged with murder. this was a voluntary manslaughter charge for planning the robbery.

California doesn't have "felony murder" anymore, which means they can't all be prosecuted for essentially enterprise murder, as in they don't know who did it but all will be held responsible.

under that law, everyone involved could be prosecuted for homicide, law changed in 2020 or 2021.
