as an american i feel like my countrys culture has responsibility in this. we are exporting violent fascist islamophobia at such a high rate, and now it is impacting even peaceful countries like new zealand. i read it had been nearly thirty years since the countrys mass shooting. now all of a sudden some monster takes forty nine lives to make strangers on the internet laugh. its so depressing

im an american muslim. im not american OR muslim, theyre both parts of my identity. and me being a muslim doesnt make me non-american. i pray facing mecca and fast in ramadan, i watch nfl and college football, i have christians muslims jews and atheists as friends, i go clubs sometimes, i dont drink for religious reasons, i have premarital sex and smoke weed despite religious reasons, man i live a NORMAL american life. yeah i hate americas foreign policy but i dont hate random people in america and blame them for it. and then people who have never studied my religion, who arent even aware we consider jesus a prophet get on television and talk about how muslims are invading the country and how were all a threat... i just want to be able for my family and i to live safely! people are dying over these lies, hell theyve been dying over them.

Breh the possibility of a shooting like this happening in our back yard was the furthest thing from anyone's mind. Anytime something like this happened overseas I'd tell my Wife that would never happen here.

This has changed our country forever however the love I'm seeing being shown to the Muslim community and people in general here is great to see.

An ex colleague organized for hundreds of halal and vegan meals to be made and delivered to the families at the hospitals. 1.2m has already been crowd funded for the local Muslim charity.

I'm hopeful that the unity will be stronger than ever before and any casual racism will be stepped out sooner.
