one core reason for the over the top disrespect of Puff, is that he aint neccessarily a street dude. 50 has this same venom towards Hov and he has slyly expressed it over the years. but cause of Hov's ties and allegiances in the city and the streets 50 dont want to make is uncomfortable for himself.

Of course 50 is doing it for attention but I think there's more to it.

For one, you have the Henchman/Chris Lighty association and Puff being in the mix of that.

Aside from him using it as promo, I think he knows that Puffy will smile in public and ignore him but probably wants him killed/dealt with him on some Pac shyt knowing he really can't.
