Yup. Golden Age is long gone. Back when all those startup apps like Uber,Postmates, and Netflix were getting in the arena, they have to make massive concessions to peel their user base from the competition. Now that they have hit critical mass, they've gone public and need to start paying out the shareholders.

Premium, Boosts, etc. I'm pretty sure they do shenanigans to block users from the people they want to match with. Hiding profiles, shoveling garbage at you, delayling likes, etc. The idea is to frustrate the user, and provide a solution to a manufactured problem. No different than a casino. Stringing you along on some, "Oh man, you were so close that time. Have you tried boosting? Users who boost on a weekly basis see up to 50% more matches (dusty Pineapple Show weirdos for women, Jabba the Hutt sized bytches for men)".

They'll inundate women with low tier men, and keep the queues of men dry as a desert.
