5G gives too much power to those that control or have large scale access to the network to monitor and surveil the population.

Push it out to the 3rd world if they need it but current mobile speeds in the West are adequate for now.

Why the rush..? Why the constant rush all the time? Roll it out to a few countries and let's see what happens first.

today:

GCHQ's mass surveillance regime ruled unlawful
The ECHR has ruled that the UK's bulk collection and ISP data interception programmes breached human rights law

The UK's bulk data collection and surveillance programme partially violated the European Convention on Human Rights, specifically contravening articles on the right to privacy and freedom of expression.

The surveillance programme, disclosed by Edward Snowden in 2013, did not in itself violate human rights law, according to the grand chamber of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), but violations stemmed from a lack of safeguards and protections.

The challenge, which has gone through various stages through the years, was brought forward by a group of privacy rights organisations, including Big Brother Watch, the Open Rights Group (ORG), Amnesty International, and Liberty. Previous judgements have generally concurred that the UK's surveillance regime was unlawful.

"The Court has recognised that Bulk Interception is an especially intrusive power, and that 'end-to-end safeguards' are needed to ensure abuse does not occur," executive director of the ORG, Jim Killock, said.

"Operating a bulk interception regime does not itself violate the convention :picard:, "owing to the multitude of threats states face in modern society", but such a regime must be subject to "end-to-end safeguards". This means that assessments should be made at every stage of the process of how necessary and proportionate the data collection measures are. "

none of the things 5G enables are critical for the car itself to functionally drive. All the necessary compute to make that happen is done onboard. What the 5G is primarily doing is enhancements, giving that extra level of safety, better predictability to avoid collisions, etc. through the V2X services like mentioned in the video. I still bet in the future some of the realtime decision-making will be offloaded to the edge(not some central server). Especially if the benefit you can gain with better predictability leads to less accidents on the road plus from a cost standpoint - your ability to cut down on the expensive onboard system if you can offload some of that processing.

I just wanted to see some self-driving cars and better online gaming. smart toilets and smart trash cans is too much

fitbit for your p*ssy :pachaha:

The spooky part is we sitting here excited about this tech without realizing we're just creating these giant honeypots at the same time. all that data controlled by just a few giant web2 companies. this should end well :francis:

"services" ... already on tap ...

"In the hot seat: BMW is selling heated seat subscriptions for £15 a month as part of upgrade package that deletes software blocking access to features already installed in its latest cars
  • BMW installs its latest cars with a range of features that are blocked from use if they were not ordered at the point of purchase
  • It now has a suite of features that can be added over the air at a later date
  • The automaker can delete software blocking the systems from being accessed
  • They are then offered on annual or monthly subscription, such as £15 a month for heated seats and £10 a month for a heated steering wheel
