I'm in Tampa visiting my family. My Uncle and Aunt's are both veterans. My uncle is Air Force and in IT. He has money but I have no interest in IT at all. I was in a cyber security course and was bored af all the time. I'm 27 right now with a B.A. in English and been doing social service related work from the time I graduated. The pay is trash and you're dealing with incompetent people at every step of the way. Or rather, people who society has turned their back on (people trying to get GED, immigrants trying to get jobs) It's rewarding work but I need money and to get out of NYC start a family. There has to be some ways to get money besides IT and going to grad school?

If the IT life ain't for you, then there's entrepreneurship, sales or corporate America. Pick your poison.

You gotta do what you gotta do in this life.

I can see myself doing sales or entrepreneurship. With sales, it's basically selling a dream or a (lie) You know the best way to go about it?

It's not about selling a lie per se, but selling why a client/customer has need for a specific product or service. Per best way to go about it, I can't really say. However, I will say this. Enterprise software sales is booming right now.

@Cynic You got advice for breh?

You don't sell a dream or lies - that's how you end up in jail. Your goal should be to help the client achieve their goals with your product or service.

The obstacles will be getting to decision makers and getting stakeholder buy-in for large projects.

The biggest obstacle will be obsessive commitment and mindset. If you want the $$$ - they will dominate your life

IT is very broad industry, so I would implore you do to some more research because I'm sure there is a topic of interest for you. You may want to look into the Business Intelligence arena and areas like Business Analysis, Six Sigma or Project Management. In my experience these requiere less technical experience than say a Developer, Engineer or Architect role.

I wish more people would make this point. It annoys me to no end the way so many people condense the I.T. field into just two or three roles.
