they're not. that was a trend a decade ago, bay area residents are moving to AZ, NV, TX, CO...to real cities that have real job opportunities. they learned their lesson moving about moving to the CV where there aren't jobs.

100%

Side note: I drove by Stockton the other day on my way back from Tahoe. That place is beyond depressing. I don’t see how anyone would willingly want to live there:yeshrug:

@the cac mamba you should look into Illinois. I think it’s better for the point you’re trying to make compared to NY. Illinois is deep in the hole and has an UNFUNDED pension system coupled with rich people taking flight to other states so they’re not on the hook while Illinois Keeps raising taxes to try to get right (aka middle class getting fukked)

Your assist here makes it seem like he's making a broad generalization based on a lack on information :ohhh:

Why save him?

government workers are not accountable :yeshrug: don't leave that part out. you can't fire government workers, so that's what gives people the :rudy: when combined with all that shyt

but i don't think they "make too much money", that's stupid. i think the pension system is trash, and looking at the finances of these cities it clearly is

it's not like i'm pointing to fully funded, functional pension systems saying "yeah, obviously this isn't working" :russ:

and feel free to address my main point, the way that places like NYC have to extort the fukk out of their citizens to pay for all this shyt. again, it's not like this is some "rich vs the government workers" scenario. EVERYONE pays for this

You absolutely can fire government workers though. It might be a bit harder because they actually have *gasp* protections so they can't be fired at will for not being a "good fit," but yes, they are terminated quite frequently. I know this goes against the dozen or so anecdotes you've got on a mental rolodex about a government worker somehow managing to escape the hangman's noose but there are thousands fired every year for poor performance among other things. Maybe the private sector needs to get rid of at will employment practices and you'll realize that having actual job protection is a benefit.

I'm not addressing your NYC point because I don't have to. That's a separate discussion you and another poster were having. Let's stay on topic, shall we. You said that you don't have a problem with workers being paid what they were promised, correct? The pensions are doing just that right now. They are in bad shape however so to keep the crisis from continuing indefinitely, pensions are being reworked and providing less benefits to the employee, lest they go insolvent. This is also what you stated that you wanted.

So, with both of these things happening, what are you complaining about? The tax burden (I'll mail you a check of $10 your likely tax contribution to bailout a public pension) is an issue but the reduction of pension benefits will resolve that need over time. In the meantime, people are getting paid what they were promised, as you said you take no issue with..........

So, why so upset?

im glad that they've been reworked :yeshrug: you're right, that was my main argument. if you're telling me that the pension system that led to this crisis is dead, and people arent getting these CLEARLY unsustainable payouts anymore, then i don't really give a fukk. im not sure i believe you though, without any links

and i see that for the third time, you've chose to ignore my point about how these cities and states have to tax the fukk out of their residents to pay for this shyt. i guess we don't want to talk about that :dead: fair enough

no one is generalizing anything. there's hard data suggesting these cities and states are in financial trouble :dead:
You definitely generalized

That's why @ill bailed your dumbass out and told you it's better to keep your anti-pension hard on for places like Chicago, because you don't know WTF you're talking about as far as NYC since there has been pension reform going on in the City of New York since damn near 2004

I didn't ignore your point, I just didn't care about it. What I wanted to address I did. Everything else is irrelevant.
