Theoretically there could be a planet out there with living dinosaurs. If humans live long enough to fuse with technology we could build star ships that are more like self sustaining floating countries and live for thousands of years in suspended animation, coming out occasionally when there is a planet with life signals near by.

Or we could digitize our consciousness so that we live in several loops of life times and existence before we arrive at a habitable planet and live there for real. For all we know a massive asteroid could be floating around which is actually a starship.
