DR gets earthquakes too (let me correct myself: DR earthquakes are really just aftershocks from Haiti which are bad enough.)

Haiti geographically is the equivalent of a kid in traffic or a part of a pinball machine. The fault lines cause wild earthquakes and the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf got waters so warm it becomes a whirlpool for hurricanes that bounce off them. DR on the other side is for the most part shielded by PR’s mountains.

DR also is way farther ahead in terms of construction and building maintenance (at least in the nice areas; the hoods are still fukked).

a tropical storm is gonna hit Haiti in 2 days
Even the hoods in DR have better constructions than Haiti.

DR is a 3rd world poor and corrupt country, but one thing DR does right is that they take their anti seismic construction laws, which are widely enforced all around the country, SERIOUSLY. Unfortunately, in some places, especially in the hood, you have people that build 3 and 4 story slums (i refuse to call those houses) right on the edge of a hill.

Like this for example:

But year, the DR has been enforcing anti seismic rules, because we are preparing for an event that could happen at any moment. The last time the Puerto Plata fault line released tension was back in 2003 with a big 6.5 earthquake and numerous replicas following that one. The replicas did more damage than the big earthquake itself.

So yeah, we are long overdue for another release of tension in that fault line and experts are warning that a massive earthquake could shake the whole DR anytime soon.

The reason Haiti seems to have "bad luck" is simply because Haiti is a vulnerable country, and unfortunately anything can result in a tragedy due to the precarious conditions that the people live in over there. Even a weak hurricane can have a massive deathtole in Haiti right now. They don't even have a president, and their security forces are too busy fighting the violent gangs (which are actually heavily armed paramilitary groups at this point, but for some reason we're still calling them gangs), so they don't have time or resources to carry out evacuations and rescue operations in case a natural disaster like an earthquake or a massive hurricane hits them.

Its extremely sad. Those people are totally on their own.

By the way, in 1946 a whole town in DR disappeared and thousands of people died due to a massive earthquake and a subsequent tsunami that wiped out the entire area clean.

And lets not even talk about hurricanes, if i start counting the times that DR has been wrecked by hurricanes, oh boy. Even the spanish colonizers documented horror stories about those.

Point is, natural disasters are not exclusive to Haiti in this island.

Love
All them construction equipment that got burned during the attacks between clans and protests sure would have come in handy right now. :snoop:

This is why I say that “boulé Kay” mindset of ours needs to have its limits.

This may be a stupidly stupid question...

But is DR also impacted when all these Haiti quakes happen? Why does it seem like it only impacts Haiti?

I'm not suggesting any bias or any conspiracy, i'm just genuinely curious if the epicenter is always on the Haitian side
