Just listened to a podcast about the first movie and they really didn't want to make it. They only did because the studio told them they could do what they wanted plus, they (Matt and Trey) believed it would be the end of the show. They didn't see the show lasting as long as it did so the movie was supposed to be the series finale. And then they had so many battles with the MPAA while making it, I think that soured them on ever going back to that well
