Outside of the first round the entire playoffs has been like this. It might have something to do with the 3 point line with so many being taken if one team his hitting them at a decent clip and the other team is going cold it could get ugly real quick and the trailing team throws in the towel.

Doubt it. For all of the talk about the talent difference between the two conferences, Portland was a 3 seed in the west. No matter how it is sliced, there will only be 3-4 legitimate championship contenders in the league.
