This is the truth.
I've said this before and others have agreed, but he needs to add weight in the worst way. the lack of direction in his game aside from trying to be the next Kevin Durant is kinda sad. he needs to bulk up, learn how to play PF and figure out his role in a structured offense. it's gonna a humbling experience for him in D1 ball, just like the hoop summit I think it was where he was such a nonfactor in a game that actually semi-resembled a real game rather than the no D aau circuit he's used to. Can you imagine him trying his bullshyt cross against defensive teams like Virginia?
That's kind of my point, right? I have just seen him look AWFUL in some games, and I think it comes down to figuring out a middle ground between where he wants to play - 30 feet from the basket - and where he needs to play more - inside 10 feet.
He'll gain weight as he's set on a D1 and then professional eating/lifting regimen, so I'm not SO worried about that... guys eventually fill out, and get stronger. I actually am more concerned with his game, and finding a balance.
You said plenty of big men could pull the move off and I'm just asking which ones could?
My point is ANYBODY. Because there isn't really a move there. He literally just switches hands, and then shoots a jumper. You guys are stuck because the other guy fell... but don't watch him, watch Thon. No "move" really occurs.
Off the top of my head, comparable sized young guys who I have seen make BETTER moves on the perimeter?
Karl Towns
Anthony Davis
Kristaps Porzingis
Myles Turner
Bobby Portis
Giannis
And that's before you get
Paul George
Kevin Durant
Kevin Garnett
Boogie
He's not Kyrie with his handle right now but he's obviously comfortable handling the ball and making an offensive move on the perimeter. That's more than you can say about most big men in college already
Yeah, because you're not SUPPOSED to say that about most big men in college. Most 18 year olds (guys that should already be freshman in college) that are 7'1 are in the post, working on their game closer to the hoop. Even from the high post, working from 15 feet out or so, using the face up to get easy shots. This dude is still playing against high schoolers, he'll be a 19 year old freshman in college AFTER this coming year, and people are bugging out because a goofy defender feel after a SUPER basic crossover.
I've seen Thon flex some REAL perimeter skills, like things actually worthy of getting excited over. So I understand why people love his potential. But THIS move? This move is garbage. Almost every guy in the league over 6-10 could do something like this in a pickup game, which is basically what he was playing in. In fact, they do.
Don't let the people dancing in the stands fool you...
People on this site actually have to watch more basketball.
