Michael Vick could officially end his career with the Falcons.

The former NFL quarterback said on CBS Radio that he wants to retire as a member of his original team, and that he’s had discussions with the front office to sign a one-day contract. “Hopefully soon,” he said.

Vick officially announced his retirement earlier this year but has yet to do so, technically. He’s been focused on off-field community work with kids since his last contract ended, with the Steelers in 2015. Vick has been no stranger to controversy after the dog-fighting scandal and arrest that brought his promising career to a halt in 2007, serving a 21-month prison sentence before making a comeback with the Eagles.

The Falcons have yet to issue a statement.

The knock against Matty Ice is that he always melts in the crucial moments of big games, and that Super Bowl performance did nothing but strengthen those beliefs. Statistically he looked like he had a good game, but what about those things that the QB rating doesn't take into account e.g. fumbling the ball at your own 25 yard line and then turn around two plays later and take a sack that took you out of field goal range? It's hard to quantify ANYONE having a "good game" when you couldn't move the ball during crucial moments of the game and in turn, played your part in arguably the biggest collapse in sports history.

They really could've used Vick's legs to get a 1st down when Matt Ryan couldn't complete those two passes in the 4th quarter and took three 2nd half sacks.
