Many of you fail to realize and understand the mindset of these poor people. Comments like this are sad to see.

Its the equivalent of privileged white cacs saying "if blacks hate being poor, why don't they just work harder and leave their environment".

Instead of empathizing and seeing it from their point of view, you try to project your way of thinking into their situation, either not realizing or ignoring the fact that you have not had to dealt with what they have had to dealt with.
The thing is when it come to Eritrean refugees, their people been fighting the government of Ethiopia fkr 30 plus years and most are just tired of fighting .I mean i think a million eritreans died in the Derge genocide and the civil war and most Eritreans I know had lost a relative or a family member in the war, thats why the relationship between Ethiopia and Eritrea is frosty as fukk. I mean even that @charmanders font had said hes own father was a freedom fighter and had to flee to the US when hes family was in danger. Thats why I dont get OP when he says they should of fought the government when theyve bèen fighting for nearly half a century against the government. Hes not even Ethiopian. Hes just trolling on issues he knows nothing about.

heard a special on npr about this situation...
trying to remember offtop
they said...
-it was mostly eritreans
-eritrea got independence from ethiopia not too long ago
-cant remember the reason why eritreas are expected to join the military for a long ass period of time.
-youth dont like it and flee.
-the country pretty much has no youth left
-they flee the country using 2 routes. sudan being one of them. from sudan they head towards libya
-libya's were it gets really dangerous but they don't care. they gotta duck the war-terrorist situation in libya
-they risk being kidnapped in libya..
-they talk to each other through the net. facebook. finding each other.

was a good listen. can't remember how it ended cause i just listen to npr in the car. look for it online. it's less than 3 days old.
Basically military service is forced labour/slavery in Eritrea. They dont get paid much and the government has been imprisoning opponents for more than a decade. Ive got an Eritrean friend who fled to Australia who said the government uses soldiers to build villas for politicians and generals. They use the Ethiopian threat as an excuse for forced military service.

Brother, its like you read my mind. I was thinking the same exacting thing while typing that. As you stated, many of the older people have already lived a life of war and turmoil and have no desire to live through that again. I used to think the same way and ask, why dont these people just revolt if they hate what's happening. My dad was also a freedom fighter and peeped me to the reason. They rather live in some sort of peace even if it means sacrificing some rights like freedom of press and religion. We don't understand this here in American because we are spoiled with all the freedoms we enjoy. It's easy for us to think and talk about revolution and overthrowing tyranny when we aren't oppressed. It's like a bird telling a snake, if he doesn't like slithering on the ground, he should just get up and fly away.

Because my ancestors fought for 300 years.

Don't complain if your people won't put in the same work.

Is just going to Europe and hanging in the streets the answer though? Im here so I see it firsthand. Is hanging in plazas, in front of grocery stores and not owning shyt the answer to all of Africa's ills? I agree with these cats who say "BUILD AFRICA." I know it's not easy but it's not like they cant. They just spend their money on Bleaching cream, weaves, and Heineken too much. fukk YOU if you dont like to hear the truth. Suck my fat black balls.

No one complaining over here. My people fought hard for 30 years and face great odds to make themselves their own nation. The country is 24 years old now, and I know people still out there fighting. So I failed to see what point you're making.

30 years....................400 years

Don't act like my people's freedom was handed to us just because your situation isn't ideal.

Is that suppose to compare to the Transatlantic slave trade and 400 years of state sanctioned murder? :dahell:

I'm confused, you're asking why Eritreans don't step up and take hold of their situation. Yet your using a 400 hundred year fight (which you upped from 300 btw) as the backing for your argument. Did salves get off the ship in America, walk up to a cac and say fukk you, I'm not doing your work? No they didn't. White people came up with systematic ways to break black peoples spirit and keep them down, but we as people can only take so much oppression. You know what, you're actually helping make my argument for me. I'm not gonna feed into this silly debate anymore. Troll harder

300 for "freedom"
400 against state sanctioned murder and discrimination

Did salves get off the ship in America, walk up to a cac and say fukk you

rebellions took place early and often.

in fact, bantu slaves were so hard to control, they started importing from the gold coast.

my people have never been p*ssy
