Aww Curtis Mayfield, a man that blossomed to his full potential during the Soulful 70s era after being a KEY member of The Impressions not to mention his production work for many other Soul artists...So today we honor him and his solo work.

3. SUPERFLY: is the third studio album by American soul musician Curtis Mayfield, released in July 1972 on Curtom Records. It was released as the soundtrack for blaxploitation movie of the same name. Widely considered a classic of 1970s soul and funk music, Super Fly was a nearly immediate hit. Its sales were bolstered by two million selling singles, "Freddie's Dead" (number 2 R&B charts, number 4 Pop charts) and the title track (number 5 R&B, number 8 Pop). Super Fly is one of the few soundtracks to out-gross the film it accompanied.

4. BACK TO THE WORLD: Is a 1973 studio album by Curtis Mayfield. It peaked at number 16 on the Billboard 200 chart the Billboard 200 chart, as well as number 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Although not as acclaimed as his previous works it was still a moderate success with his fanbase.

5. SWEET EXORCIST: Is a 1974 studio album by Curtis Mayfield. It peaked at number 39 on the Billboard 200 Chart, as well as number 2 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Again not among his acclaimed works but not a failure either, often regarded as his most underrated album.

6. GOT TO FIND A WAY: Is a 1974 studio album by Curtis Mayfield. It peaked at number 76 on the Billboard 200 chart, as well as number 17 on the TOP R&B/HIP-HOP ALBUM chart. It was moderate success critically with an average C+ rating.

7. THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE AMERICA TODAY: is a 1975 studio album by Curtis Mayfield. It peaked at number 120 on the Billboard 200 chart, as well as number 13 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. This would be the last Curtis Mayfield album to receive mainstream attention, however some critics said it was a "return to form" moment for Mayfield.

- CURTIS: The musical styles of his debut Curtis moved further away from the pop-soul sounds of Mayfield's previous group The Impressions and featured more of a funk and psychedelic-influenced sound. The album's subject matter incorporates political and social concerns of the time. Curtis sold well at the time charting at number one on the Billboard Black albums (for five nonconsecutive weeks) and number nineteen on the Billboard Pop albums charts.

2. ROOTS: Is Curtis Mayfield's second studio album, released in October of 1971. Having received critical praise from a variety of publications, the album is regarded as not just one of Mayfield's best works but also as a classic release of the '70s soul era, with Allmusic critic Bruce Eder stating that "the album soars on some of the sweetest and most eloquent...soul sounds heard up to that time". The album became a commercial success as well, hitting the #6 slot on Billboard's Top R&B Albums chart.
