LOL @ "overrated". Beats? Sick, Features? Sick. Impact and Sales? 5 Million worldwide. Game came nice, sure we didn't know this was the beginning of the name dropping ODin he would end up doing but at the time it was just he was a big fan of rap. But I love this album, it's still my favorite game album. On a national scale this album did bring the West back. Snoop and Dre was all that was left on a mainstream level. Cube was still doing movie, Westside connection feel off. Daz and Kurupt became underground.
The Game came out and gave the west a voice on a mainstream level. Of course Dr. Dre and 50 were the masterminds behind it so they should get credit but the album was amazing. The Hit songs were Hits and dope but the instrospective records on there, the straight up westcoast joints. The game even had some eastcoast sounding production on there too. It was just a well balanced album. The features worked and didn't drown out game, they complimented them. At the time of it's release I felt it was a strong 4.5 MICS. But I think 8 years later I can say it will probably be considered a Classic in the future. Most people feel it is now but I think it's still growing. This was one of my favorite songs on there, Havoc went in, I wish Prodigy did a guest feature on that too:
