When I got back into training recently I had to stop after 4 months cause that monthly fee in exchange for weak ass boxing lessons from a below average trainer was denting my pockets. Most older cats will have hands and more experience fighting since people were more violent back then.

The zero-tolerance policy at schools nowadays wasn't as much of a thing in olden times. People probably scrapped on the regular. I'd bet the average 16-year old from 1959 would put some hurt on the average 16-year old in 2019.

HOWEVER.....grappling today is more widespread and kids would probably take shyt to the floor much quicker. A kid from the 50s might get their leg twisted before they throw their second combination. 2019 kid is heavier but that can work both ways. Less stamina but innately stronger and harder to move. Plus the 2019 kid will just shoot the 1959 kid the next day

I don't know about a gym, like dedicated for boxing.

But it was common for Father's to teach their sons to fight/box and brother's to teach their younger brothers. Also sports like gymnastics and in some areas boxing were high school sports.

So if you weren't a varsity or all state gymnast or boxer you at least were taught it in school.

My public schools didn't have boxing, but 1 of the middle schools (whichever back in the day was a high school) had an old gym where the boxing ring was, which was later the wrestling room, and later hardwood basketball.

And my high school still had trophies and pictures of their all state gymnasts and shyt.
