My cousin presented me with this question......I'll drop my answer later. Growing up as an R&B head I remember when both of these joints dropped. Both were good as songs with sad ass endings

The Hall video was so sad that people didn't notice that it did NOT match the lyrics of the song.
Actually one of the best performances from a great singer.
