I'd love to know how many family members were in ownership prior to selling their interest.

If it was 10 or less and they all come out with $2 million each, I can see some family members wanting to sell. Not saying it's the right thing to do, but I can see that happening

This is exactly what old musicians have been telling yall is the reason it’s better to sell the catalog and leave cash instead of “generational wealth” like yall keep saying.

Some set of kids is going to want to sell and they are going to fight over who gets to have and keep what. In this situation the old lady wanted to keep and live on the property and the family wanted cash.

Gotta plan better for long term handling down of assets.

Everything should still be in her name until she departs. Then split the shyt up in equal allotments amongst the kids. Then they could individually choose to sell.

Why would it be in her name if the land belonged to her husbands father and his heirs. It's not just hers to be fully in her name hence the reasoning of the article.

What's really sad is I guarantee those that sold their percentage of the land didn't get anywhere near its true value. Most likely some distant relatives living in the north that had never stepped foot on the land. So it was jusy free money to them.

this is why people have wills and they leave shyt to one person.
That's even worse as one person can make the sole decision on behalf of everyone else. More times than not, you can't trust that one person to do the right thing without screwing everyone else over.

I say that from personal experience and why you leave it to multiple people to prevent that from happening.
