California passed a law in 1994 preventing civil trials/settlements from proceeding before the conclusion of the criminal investigations and eventual trials. This was a direct result of the accuser's father accepting the settlement money (paid out by the Dangerous Tour's insurance) and then refusing to allow his stepson (the alleged victim) from testifying in criminal court. Its hard to find references to the law being passed online, but it was mentioned in a 2003 article here:

Interesting take, but children being possessed taken away by ghoulish/demonic legends is pretty popular in lore. I love that movie and maybe can stretch to see a skin resemblance.
